Meet some Eldon Depot people

Jim Bedford is currently president of the Eldon Depot Committee, having previously served as the Committee's first vice-president. Jim worked as a conductor for the Rock Island Line until the railroad discontinued operations. After his retiring as a conductor, he and his wife, Martha, entered community service with area organizations.

Fred Thomas is the Eldon Depot Committee vice-president. Fred worked for the Rock Island as a trainman before changing professions. He earned a college degree and later retired as a school principal. He and his wife, Jeri, moved back to the Eldon area where they are both active in area organizations.

Steve Roe has served as secretary of the Eldon Depot Committee since its inception in 2001. Steve retired from the Rock Island as an engineer, and is an active part of the Eldon community. He has played a leading role in the acquisition and restoration of the depot and its museum artifacts.

Jim Conrad, also an engineer retired from the Rock Island, lives in Eldon with his wife, Fran. Jim enjoys the distinction of being the oldest living representative of the engineers who called Eldon home. Want to learn about the real world of being a locomotive engineer back in the "good ole' days"...just ask Jim!
